Owatonna, Minn. - Kenneth Wayne Jones, 86, of Owatonna, Minn. died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Owatonna Hospital.

Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m., with the Reverend Amanda Weinkauf officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna, with full military honors conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ken was born Jan. 31, 1930 in Howard County, north of Lime Springs, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Ellen (Swift) Jones. Before graduating from Lime Springs High School in 1948, he shoveled coal for different businesses. After graduation, he worked for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa.

Ken enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1951-54. He married Kathleen Doris Smith on Nov. 12, 1952. After being discharged from the Navy, they moved to Owatonna, where he started working for Gateway Transportation Company until 1983. He then worked for Owatonna Public Schools from 1983-85.

Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, bowling, hunting, baseball and traveling. He also enjoyed cars and collecting toy tractors, cars and semis. Ken was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jones of Owatonna; three children, Debra (Duane) Klecker of Owatonna, Dean (Peggy) Jones of Owatonna and Denise (Mike) Meixner of Owatonna; daughter-in-law, Susan Jones of Spring Valley, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andre) Jay, Travis Jones, Jared (Alicyn) Prestegard, Tim (Whitney) Jones, Katie Jones and Samantha and Dillon Meixner; three step-grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Klecker, Scott (Tiffany) Klecker, and Stacy (Mike) Burton; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Jay and Lily Prestegard; nine step-great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Marlene) Jones of Coolidge, Ariz.; sister, Betty (Earl) Walker of Harmony, Minn.; and many extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale Jones; infant son, Keith Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Esther Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
