Funeral Tuesday For John A. Lewis
Was Employee of IHC For 35 Year Period

Funeral services were held from the Weaver Funeral Home in Lime Springs on Tuesday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m. for John Albert Lewis, 88, who passed away at Cresco, Iowa, at about 4 o'clock Monday morning. The Rev. Richard Prescott of Sumner, Iowa, officiated. (Rev. Prescott buried Mrs. Lewis when he was pastor of the Lime Springs Methodist Church.) Pallbearers for the deceased were: John Foulkes, M.H. Jones, W.R. Williams, W.O. Davis, Ed Evans and John Borgan. Burial was in the family grave at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Life Sketch
John Albert lewis was born on April 19, 1859, at Danesville, N.Y. At the age of nine, he came to Iowa with his parents who located on a farm two miles northeast of Lime Springs, where he grew to manhood.
In 1881, he and his brother Tom homesteaded in South Dakota, being among the first white people to live in that township, near Fedora, S.D. After farming there a number of years, John went to West Pullman, Ill., where he was employed as a mechanic with the International Harvester Company for 35 years. In August 1899 he was united in marriage with Rose E. Stevens. They returned to Iowa in 1935. His wife preceded him in death December 11, 1938. John had lived in this community until his death, due to coronary heart disease, on May 5, 1947.
Surviving is one brother, Wellington Watkin Lewis, of Lime Springs. His brother Tom passed away in 1926, and his sister Ella in 1899.
