EdnaMae Fagner Crow, 90, of Cresco, Iowa died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Evans Memorial Home, in Cresco. On June 9, 1922 a tiny bundle danced her way into the lives of Marie and Nels Larsen in rural Lime Springs, Iowa. She walked three miles to Forest City Township School, occasionally getting a ride in a wagon or a horse-drawn sleigh. She graduated from Cresco High School, in 1940, where she had enjoyed softball and basketball. EdnaMae attended a business school in Davenport and two years later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where she used her skills as a stenographer while stationed in Hawaii/California, and was discharged Dec. 28, 1945.
EdnaMae married Dale Fagner Sr., June 18, 1946, and raised eight children on their Lime Springs farm. They attended the Bonair United Methodist Church, where they filled up a church pew. She also sold Fashion Frocks and Tupperware products. EdnaMae mentored many young women through her work as a 4-H leader.
A thread that ran through her life was the desire to enrich herself, her family, her community and her country. Her acting debut was on the Cresco Community Theatre stage in “My Fair Lady,” where she was literally knocked off her feet, regained her role and said her lines. She won a number of spelling bee contests at the Howard County Fair. Because of her love for photography, she was a natural as the Historian for the Lime Springs American Legion Post #545, Zion United Methodist Church and the Howard County Historical Society. She also served as a news reporter representing the Bonair community. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the neighborhood Stop & Go Club.
EdnaMae married Ted Crow on May 30, 2009, and together they traveled and danced the world.
EdnaMae’s love of dance was a strong thread woven throughout the tapestry of her life and surely, she is now dancing in front of the Lord!
Survivors include her husband Ted Crow, of Cresco; her eight children—Althea (Norm) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Dianne Fagner of Des Moines, Barbara (Larry) Sallis of Waterloo, Marlene (Gary) Aspenson of Cresco, Dale (Julie) Fagner II of Elkader, Janel (Gary) Langreck of Cresco, David (Lynette) Fagner of Wilton, Dean (Tracy) Fagner of Durango, Colo. and their families; siblings, Shirley Tuccillo of Brooklyn, N.Y., Albert Larsen of Edgar, Wis. and Grace Bronner of Decorah; and 10 step-children and their families.
EdnaMae was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Fagner Sr.; her parents; and four brothers, Sherman, Harry, Nels and Richard Larsen.
Funeral services were held on April 15, 2013 at the Cresco United Methodist Church in Cresco. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
