Mary Kathryn (Laipple) Jones, 91, of Cresco, Iowa, formerly of Lime Springs, Iowa died on Friday, March 22, 2013 following a brief illness.
She was born on April 11, 1921 in Faulkner, Iowa to John and Grace (Weimer) Laipple. Mary graduated from Geneva High School in 1938. She attended college at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her teaching certificate. Upon receiving her certificate, she accepted a teaching position in Lime Springs, where she met Roy W. Jones. On Feb. 22, 1948 the couple married. They were the parents to four children – Kathryn, Patricia, Scot and Kristi. She and Roy made their home in Lime Springs where they owned and operated Jones Meat Market until 1991. She was an elementary teacher and later an assistant librarian at the Lime Springs Public Library. Following the death of her husband, Roy, in 2008, Mary spent her remaining years in Cresco sharing a home with her daughter, Kate.
Mary was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star and the J.C. Club. She also belonged to the Lime Springs Community Club. Mary enjoyed the regular gatherings of the “Coffee Bunch” over the years in Lime Springs. Her hobbies included baking and decorating cookies for various holidays, cooking, sewing, playing solitaire, traveling to see family-with a few casino trips along the way-and reading.
She is survived by her four children – Kathryn Jones of Cresco, Patricia (Greg) DeTimmerman of Urbandale, Iowa, Scot (Deborah) Jones of Omaha, Neb. and Kristi (Andrew) Borland of Hibbing, Minn. Mary enjoyed her five grandchildren, Stephanie (Garrett) Stratton, Amanda (Blake) Reigert, Kyle Jones, John Borland and Mark Borland, and five great-grandchildren, Addison, Sydney and Gregory Stratton and Jacob and Brooklyn Reigert. Mary is also survived by her youngest brother, George Laipple; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; her sisters, Susannah Hayward and Dorothy Ashley; and four brothers, John “Bus” Laipple, Leslie “Bud” Laipple, Robert “Bob” Laipple and Donald “Bill” Laipple.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. A luncheon will follow at the Lime Springs Community Center. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.Source: Lime Springs Herald, April 1, 2013
