Ethel (Bastian) Chick, 85, of Chester, Iowa died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Evans Home in Cresco.
Ethel was born in Lime Springs, Iowa on Dec. 16, 1927 to Herbert and Bertha (Payne) Fisher. She married Alfred C. Bastian on July 4, 1945 in Austin, Minn.; to that union four children were born. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1982. She later married Donald E. Chick on Dec. 30, 1985 in British Columbia, Canada. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1998.
Early in her life Ethel worked at Sundstrand Aviation in Rochford, Ill., moving to Chester in 1970. In 1973 she set up a Ceramic Studio in Chester, which she operated until 1985. She also worked at Donaldson’s until 1985, when she moved to Canada to marry Donald Chick. She returned to Iowa in 1988. Ethel enjoyed crocheting, painting, quilting, gardening, walking and travelling.
Ethel is survived by four children, Gaylen (Patricia) Bastian of Rochford, Ill., Bonnie Lou Ruud of Lime Springs, Robert (Ginger) Bastian of LeRoy, Minn. and Cheryl (Carl) Miller of Chester; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three step-children, Dale (Jeri) Chick, Rollyce (Carl) Nichols and Randy (Ann) Chick, all of Oregon; a sister, Evelyn (Carl) Keich of California; and a sister-in-law, Maryann Fisher of Ionia, Iowa.
Funeral services were held March 22, 2013 at United LuFuneral services will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Chester with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.
