Funeral services for Carolyn W. Haayer will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at the United Methodist Church in Chester, Iowa with the Rev Candie Carey officiating. Burial will take place in the Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Chester United Methodist Church from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Carolyn Haayer, age 71, of LeRoy, Minn. died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at her home following a battle with cancer.
She was born July 15, 1941 to Harry and Vera (Sachs) Blome in Oelwein, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Lakota, Iowa High School in 1960 and was united in marriage to Carl Haayer on Feb. 21, 1961, also in Lakota. To this union, two daughters were born, Carmen and Cheryl. Carolyn was a homemaker. After her children were raised she worked at Peter Produce in Lime Springs, Jack and Jill/Econo Foods in Cresco, Iowa, the bakery in Cresco and was currently working as a food demonstrator for Kwik Star.
She was an active member of the Chester United Methodist Church and its Circle and served as the secretary/treasurer for the UMW. She also served as a Sunday School teacher while they lived at Lake Mills, Iowa. She enjoyed baking, doing crafts, gardening, taking care of her flowers, going on fishing trips, trips to the casino and hunting for four leaf clovers. Carolyn enjoyed playing cards and had been a member of the Chester Card Club for over 35 years. Most of all, Carolyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Carl of LeRoy; daughters, Carmen (Kevin) Larsen of Elma, Iowa and Cheryl Waker of Goose Creek, S.C.; two grandchildren, Bryan Waker and Kaylee Waker; one great-grandchild, Kayana Barrineau; four siblings, Maurice (Darlene) Blome of Ferryville, Wis., Darlene German of Peoria, Ill., Jane (Kenny) Fritz of Fairmont, Minn. and Conley (Deb) Blome of Lakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law; a sister, Janet Blome; and brothers-in-law, Harry Lee Haayer, Herman Haayer Jr., Gene Haayer and Bruce Haayer.
