Memorial services for Dallas Reed will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the Chester United Methodist Church in Chester, Iowa, with the Rev. Candie Carrey officiating. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Chester Hill Cemetery prior to the service. Lunch will follow the service at the Chester Community Center.
Dallas Reed, age 88, formerly of Chester, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.
He was born October 29, 1923 in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa to Mac and Elsie (Hasselbrink) Reed. After high school, Dallas joined the United States Army serving in the Sixth Armored Division. He continued his education at Upper Iowa University graduating with a four-year degree. Dallas was a rural mail carrier for many years in the Chester, Iowa area. He enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, listening to Glen Miller, and antiquing (buying high and selling low).
Dallas is survived by his children, Renee (Richard) Smith, and William (La Dene) Reed, both of Chester, Iowa, and Carmen Reed and her family, Fred (Ann) Zickwolf of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Michael (Susan) Smith, Laura (Noah) Reed – Dingler, Dr. Bryan (Jessica) Reed and David Zickwolf; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jackson, Caleb, and Cameron. Dallas is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Reed of Cumberland, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Dick (Lorraine) Cray of Chester, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen Reed; two brothers, Jim Dale and Arnold Reed; and a sister, Lois Pickle.
Memorial are preferred in lieu of flowers.
