Services for Alberta K. Gasser of Lime Springs were held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Candreaeah Carey and Dr. Donna Ihns presiding. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs. Cremation Society of Iowa handled the arrangements.
Alberta, 75, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. In December of 2010 Alberta was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors.
Alberta Kay Gasser was born April 25, 1936 in Cresco, the daughter of Albert and Lyle (Tooker) Pederson. She attended the Cresco Public Schools, graduating in 1954. She was baptized and confirmed in the Cresco United Methodist Church.
On May 21, 1955, she married Raymond Francis Gasser.
They lived in Minneapolis, Minn. for two years and returned to Lime Springs and operated the Gasser family farm for seven years. Between 1954 and 1994 she worked for 27 years for the United States Department of Agriculture in Howard County, reaching the position of Chief Program Assistant. After retirement, Ray and Alberta enjoyed many happy winters at View Point Park in Mesa, Ariz.
She was a member of the Lime Springs United Methodist Church and the UMW. Her organizations included the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Oneota Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Lime Springs Community Club, the Saddle Club, Friendly Circle Club and the Democratic party.
Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening, traveling, games and cooking. Memorable highlights of her life were the couple’s Golden Wedding Anniversary, their trip to Europe and riding with Ray as Grand Marshals in the Lime Springs Sweet Corn Days Parade.
Alberta is survived by her husband, Raymond; three daughters: Debra (Steve Condit) Nott of Colorado Springs, Colo., Diane (Kenneth) Lundeen of Aledo, Ill., Darla (David) Witt of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis; five grandchildren: Cody and Samuel Nott, Linsey Lundeen Dillon and Danyell Witt; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Fischer and friend Ken Anderson of Osage; brother, Dean (Cheryl) Pederson of Chester, Minn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gaylord Borgan of Lime Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Schultz and Herbert and Barbara Jones.
