Bernadine Kelly died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa where she has made her home since February of 2004.
Bernadine Marie “Bun” Kelly was born on February 17, 1930 in Elma, Iowa, the daughter or James and Catherine (Keefe) Kelly. At the age of five, “Bun” moved to Cresco with her family and attended school at Assumption Grade School and graduated from Assumption High School. During high school and following her graduation, she worked at various jobs.
On September 28, 1949, Bernadine was united in marriage to Charles Morgan at the Assumption Parsonage. Following their marriage, they lived in the Lime Springs area. They were later divorced and Bun lived in various homes in Preston, Minn. before entering the Spring Valley Nursing Home. She eventually moved into the Evans Memorial Home and made it her hoe until her death.
Bun” liked to read and just loved to cook. She enjoyed making a chou mein dinner which was one of her family favorites. She also made a sour cream chocolate cake. One thing that she continued to enjoy was visiting with family and friends, or anyone who would stop to listen. Bun was quick-witted and was known to tell a joke or two.
She was active in the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester. Her faith and belief in God created a strong relationship in her life.
Bernadine is survived by her children and their spouses: Rick (Gin) Morgan of Dilworth, Minn., Mary (Harlan) Larson of Lime Springs, Joe (Lori) Morgan of Lake City, Minn., Tim (Bev) Morgan of Rochester, Minn. and Tom (Renee) Morgan of Hamden, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, Catie, Patrick, Alison, Christina, Michael, Ericka, Jared, Drew, Miranda, Taralee, Julia and Keith; and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Madelyn and Andrew. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Shimek of Bloomington, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bun in death were her parents; one daughter, Susan Reiss; one brother, Keith Kelly; and two sisters, Eileen Hoopman and Lorrai.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, with inurnment in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Ray E. Atwood will officiate.
