Robert Moser, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Cresco Care Center, where he has made his home since February 21. He was 87 years of age.
Robert Walter Moser was born on October 26, 1923 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Walter and Margaret (Aulwes) Moser. He grew up in the Manly area where he received the early part of his education. The family moved to Lime Springs, Iowa in 1939 and Bob graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1942. Following his education, he worked at Hormel in Austin until he entered the United States Navy in December of 1944. He received his discharge in July of 1946 and returned to the Lime Springs area and started farming.
On June 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marcella O’Brien in Lourdes, Iowa. They were blessed with nine children. Bob and Marcella made their home on the same farm all of the remainder of their lives.
In earlier years, he liked to fish and hunt and play cards with the neighborhood card club. He liked to weld and could fix anything that was broken. Bob was a life-long member of the American Legion in Lime Springs. He had been on the board of the elevator in Lime Springs.
Bob is survived by his children: Neil, Kathy (Ron Verbeck) Schmitt, Gerald (Carla), Beverly (Perry) Thomas and Bruce (Darcy), all of Lime Springs, Sharon (Wayne) Hammon of LeRoy, Minn. and Luann Hammon of Riceville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Shelly Hensley, Charles and Timothy Hammon, Casey Vobr, Caitlin Schmitt, Melissa McElroy, Scott Hammon, Alex Moser, Truman Thomas, Ariana and Devon Moser; six great-grandchildren: Dakota, Montana and Nevada Hensley, Keaton Vobr and Melanie and Taylor McElroy; two brothers, Bill (Elaine) Moser of Lime Springs and Dean (Shirley) Moser of Robins, Iowa; and two sisters, Marjorie (Paul) Mohlis of Minneapolis, Minn. and Louise Meyer of Plymouth, Minn.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents; his wife Marcella in 1993; one daughter, Betty Jean; one son, Warren; two sisters, Ruth and Phyllis; and one brother, Jeff.
Funeral services were held Saturday, at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, with burial in Calvary Cemetery at Cresco with military rites. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Source: Lime Springs Herald, April 5, 2011
