Stella Dorothy Wyatt, age 88, of Riceville, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa. A funeral mass will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Friday, April 9 during the hours of 5 to 7 P.M. A scripture service will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday evening.
Stella Dorothy Kohles was born on November 23, 1921 in Oakdale Township in Howard County, Iowa to George and Mayme (Emig) Kohles. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Stella was united in marriage to Warren Wyatt on October 6, 1945 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, Iowa.
After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Riceville area until 1952 when they moved into town. In 1959 Warren and Stella purchased the DX Station in Riceville, which they operated until 1984. They also owned and operated the Oaks Motel for eight years.
Stella was a member of St. Anne’s Rosary Society, St. Rita’s Study Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. A charter member of the Riceville TOPS club, she enjoyed many TOPS convention trips. She and Warren were able to spend time visiting daughter Kathy in such places as Hawaii, Virginia, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Florida. Some of her favorite things were having coffee with her sisters and friends, her love of writing and reading poetry, growing beautiful flowers, spending time with family, having fun, and sharing her positive attitude.
She is survived by her husband Warren of Riceville; daughters, Dianna (Delgene) Nicolai, Riceville, Kathy (Jim) Morris, Pensacola, FL, and Julie (Allen) Lee, Elma, IA.; grandchildren Craig (Kellie) DeHoet, Woodward, IA, Jena (Charlie) Passut, Franklin, VA, Adam Lee, College Station, TX, Wyatt Lee and Zachary Lee, Elma, IA; step-grandchildren Josie (Troy) Higley, Zumbrota, MN and Troy (Kim) Nicolai, Mankato, MN; Twelve great grandchildren, Courtney DeHoet, Taylor Boude, Morgan DeHoet, Ciera DeHoet, Cole DeHoet, Cayla DeHoet, Charlie Passut, Jamie Passut, Sydney Higley, William Higley, Addison Nicolai and Jack Nicolai; two sisters: Rita Thompson, Riceville and Anna Sullivan, Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters-in-law, Tillie Fleming Pepin, WI, Blanche Considine, Apache Junction, AZ, Ida Wyatt, Elk River, MN, Beatrice Kohles, Elma, IA; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Alfred and Urban Kohles; five sisters, Marcella Wyatt, Lenora Kohles, Helen Sullivan, Rose Kohles, Mary Whitinger; and grandsons Chris and Casey DeHoet; along with several brothers and sisters-in-law.
