She graduated from Lime Springs High School and attended Pixy’s School of Cosmetology at Waterloo, Iowa. Upon graduating and receiving her license to practice Cosmetology she returned to Lime Springs and went into business with her mother and father at McMaster’s Barber and Beauty Shop—taking over her mother’s business upon her retirement.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years and a member of the Lime Springs Methodist Church for equally as long. She loved singing in the church choir and dancing to all kinds of music, especially the “Big Band” music of the 1940s.
