Raymond “Ray” Van Dyke, 59, of Lime Springs, Iowa passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Lindstrom Funeral Home.
Ray was born on January 26, 1950 to Vern and Stella (Posternak) Van Dyke in Germany. He attended school in Lime Springs through the eighth grade, then graduated from Crestwood High School in 1969 where he participated in several sports. He was then drafted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged and several years ago was presented the Purple Heart. Ray was also a member of the American Legion Post 545 in Lime Springs. Following his discharge Ray moved to LeRoy, Minn. He was married twice and later divorced. To those unions two sons were born, Travis and Ben.
Ray loved golfing, fishing, playing pool, cards and softball. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and even simply enjoyed quiet time at home. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by a son Ben of Cresco; three grandsons, Brennan, Sloan and Hunter; a granddaughter, Bryn; two brothers, Allen (Carol) of Rochester and Jeff (Jodene) of Rochester; a sister, Wanda (Rick) Byrnes of Cresco; a significant other, Peggy Schneider of Lime Springs; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
