Susan Marie (Morgan) Reiss of Diamond, Mo. passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at her home, encircled by family and friends, following a long battle with cancer.
Sue was born May 16, 1962 in Cresco, Iowa, to Charles Morgan and Bernadine “Bun” Kelly. She graduated from Harmony High School in 1980. She earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree from Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minn., in 1982.
On October 14, 1989, Sue married John J. Reiss in Chester, Iowa. She worked for several parks within the National Park Service for 27 years and most recently was chief of maintenance for the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.
Sue was a member of the St. Caneras Catholic Church in Neosho, Mo. She loved fishing, baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals and, most of all, her family.
Survivors include her husband; her son, Keith; father, Charles and wife Emily of Harmony, Minn.; mother, Bernadine Kelly of Cresco; brothers, Rick (Gin) of Dilworth, Minn., Joe (Lori) of Lake City, Minn., Tim (Bev) of Rochester, Minn, and Tom (Renee) Morgan of Hamden, Conn.; sister, Mary (Harlan) Larson of Lime Springs, Iowa; stepbrothers, Larry (Rosie) Scrabeck of Rochester, Dwight (Deb) Scrabeck of Harmony and Wayne (Deb) Scrabeck of Sandstone, Minn.; and stepsister, Karen Scrabeck (Edward Dains) of Bend, Ore. Many nieces and nephews survive her, as well as her close friend, Jane Forliti.
The Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2009 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Chester, with Fr. Ray Atwood as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the American Cancer Society. Friends are asked to mail memorials to Midland Cremation Society, 1515 W. 10th St., Ste. B, Joplin, MO 64801. Arrangements are by Midland Cremation Society of Joplin, Mo.
