A dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and grandfather, Ray was born July 10, 1956, to Raymond Charles and Angeline (Northness) Rance. Growing up, Ray was involved with running the family farm, FFA and Driftrunners Snowmobile Club. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1974. In 1976, Ray married Darla Daskam at United Methodist Church in Cresco. He began his career spending 20 years at Spahn & Rose Lumber Company and was later a cost accountant at Featherlite Trailers for 15 years. Most recently, Ray was a salesman at Plantpeddler until June 2012. From 1979-1993 Ray served on the Cresco Fire Department. He was a long-time member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Ray enjoyed and was most happy spending time with his family and working outside on the family farm, raising livestock and crops. He loved fishing, camping and snowmobiling alongside his wife, Darla, and each summer Ray made sure to get in a few rounds of golf. He enjoyed years of watching his kids in their high school and college sporting events, and recently he loved spoiling his grandson as often as possible. Ray also enjoyed wood working, creating beautiful projects in his shop. Ray was active and outgoing; he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and looking for ways to turn every occasion into a fun event, which typically involved playing practical jokes, lots of laughs and stories.
