William “Bill” Davis passed away at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. on Jan. 19, 2013. His health had been a recurring problem for Bill the last few years.
William Gale Davis was born July 15, 1939, in the Cresco hospital, the son of Morgan Benjamin Davis, Jr. and Edna Capper Davis of Lime Springs. A few years later Bill’s world was brightened with the arrival of his baby sister, Benita, who survives.
Bill attended the local school, graduating from Lime Springs High School with the Class of 1957, whose members remained among his dearest friends all his life. He was confirmed in the Lime Springs United Methodist Church where he began his musical career singing in the choir and as a much-sought soloist.
Through the years, his wonderful singing ability, fostered by his loving aunt, Anna May Davis, brought him great recognition and he was always generous in sharing his talent wherever he lived and worked. In 1964 he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Upper Iowa University. For several years he pursued a teaching career and then entered the business world in Lansing, Iowa with his own insurance agency, continuing until his retirement in 2010. Bill served his country for four-and-a-half years as a Captain in the Untied States Air Force.
Bill and Judith Miller were united in marriage on July 18, 1964, and they became the parents of three children, Kathleen (Steve) Doering of Fergus Falls, Minn., Kristine (William) Femal of Plainfield, Wis. and Kevin (Susan) Davis of Hudson, Wis. A daughter, Stephanie, was born to Bill and his second wife Pat; later he was married to Judith Loomis. In his later years Bill married Avis Smith, who cared for him lovingly during his final illness at his long-time home in Lansing.
Services were held at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church on Feb. 1, 2013 with Dr. Donna Ihns, Gary Thomas and Bernard Roesler leading the service. Kareen Johnson served as pianist.
