Elizabeth Louise Roberts, 79 of Lime Springs, Iowa, passed away at the Regional Health Services of Howard County, Iowa on Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Elizabeth was born on a farm west of Grand Meadow, Minn. on June 22, 1931 to Thomas and Olivia (Stier) Michaelsen. She attended and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1950. Betty had a few different jobs. She drove truck, hauling peas and sweet corn in the 1950s for Holman Canning Company and also Libby’s. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Elizabeth was united in marriage to Thomas Griff Roberts on June 22, 1959 at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, and together they raised their six children on the Roberts’ farm near Lime Springs.
Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 545 and an active member of the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester, Iowa. Betty enjoyed her family, sewing, gardening, fishing and helping out with the farming.
She is survived by her children, Tony (Rita) Roberts of Lime Springs, Tim (Diane) of Lime Springs, Ann (Bruce) Roberts of Key Largo, Fla., Rena (Dean) Pecinovsky of Grand Meadow, Ed (Jill) of Grand Meadow and Ted (Amy) of Lime Springs; 11 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; and three sisters, Violet Olson, Patricia Hilmer and Becky Bunne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes, Iowa. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
