Monday evening our people were shocked with the sad news that Mr. Samuel O. Kennedy on returning from J. T. Drummond’s store about eight o’clock found his wife dead on the doorstep. She appearantly{sp} prepared to retire when Mr. Privat’s son called to get a fowl he had purchased and she slipped on her shoes without tieing{sp} them and went out to aid him and seemingly she did not reach the house again, one shoe had slipped off and lay a short distance behind her, from all appearance she had dropped down on her knees and then fell forward on her face which struck the step and made a slight bruise. Mrs. Kennedy was a woman who was universally beloved. The family moved to this vicinity in 1856 and a large circle of tried and true friends will mourn her, she died in the 67 year of her age.
The angel of death has descended
His shadow has darkened a home
How joyous on quivering pinions
He bore to the foot of the throne
A dear one, a darling mother,
So gentle, affectinate, {sp} beloved,
To sing the song of ‘Hosanna,’
In realms eternal above.Mourn not your mother, dear children
She’s free from all sickness and pain
And now rests in the arms of her savior
How small is your loss to her gain
Be comforted, too, dear companion
This parting may grieve you full sore
Life is but short at the longest
She’s only just gone on beforeAs your last adieus you are paying
Though those smiling lips will ne’er part
How plainly these words, or their import
They, convey to each of your hearts”
“Meet, O! meet me in heaven,
Each and all, an unbroken band,
For when Christ shall make up his jewels
You’ll find me at his right hand.”

OBITUARY.
Maryett M., only daughter of Caleb and Polly Miller, was born at Burlington, Vermont, August 31, 1828, and died at Florenceville, Iowa April 22, 1895. She moved with her parents when but a few years of age to the state of New York, where she grew to womanhood and married her playmate and school-fellow, Samuel O. Kennedy, July 22, 1851, at the town of Hopkinton. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy moved to this vicinity in 1856. Ten children came to bless this union and eight of them survive their mother. The funeral, Thursday the 25th was at the M. E. Church. Rev. Riddley, an Advent minister who had converted and baptized her, preached the sermon, choosing his text from First Thess. IV 13-14.
The children present were Mrs. Ellen Arneson, of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Mary E. Craig of Watertown, S. D., and Lee, Jay and Eugene; the sons unable to attend were Guy, Fred and Giles. Her obsequies drew one of the largest audiences that has ever assembled in our village on such an occasion for some time. The large cortege that followed her to her last resting place is evidence of the high esteem in which she was held by the people of this community, who for the past 39 years have known and have loved her. Her sudden death is a sad blow to her husband and children and her memory will long be cherished by those who have appreciated her many good qualities and gentle acts of loving kindness.
In this hour of great affliction,
Our hearts through faith, to Jesus cling,
O! may He protect these dear ones
‘Neath the shaddow{sp} of his wing. And if they but battle bravely,
They all again will surely meet,
Father, mother, sister, brothers,
Around the throne at Jesus’ feet.
