R. J. McHugh who has been an invalid for the past two or three years died on Tuesday morning aged about forty three years. In the sketches of Howard county we find this notice of him. "R. J. McHugh, dealer in agricultural implements; business established 1880; was born in Lindsay, Ont. in 1852, and is the son of Patrick and Ann McHugh, natives of Ireland. He left Canada in 1870, and located in Omaha, remaining one year, then returned to Canada. In 1878 he again left Canada and traveled two years in Oregon. In 1880, he located here and established business. He was married in December 1880, to Agnes Kirby, of Lawler, and they have one child, Mary E." Since the above was published two sons were born to them Parnell and Emmet.

Transcriber's Note: The gravestone indicates his first name was Roderick and was born in 1850 instead of 1852.

Death of R. J. McHugh.
Cresco Republican:—Rod McHugh is dead, was the sad, though not unexpected announcement that greeted merchants, clerks and business men as they come down town this morning, Tuesday, April 21). At 2 o’clock this a. m., without appearent{sic} pain, his long struggle for life ended. In the death of this estimable citizen the city mourns; for no citizen was more generally admired than he whose spark of life went out this morning. He was one of our succuessful{sic} business men, but it was in the quiet of his home, or in the midst of congregated friends, that he shone with especial brilliancy. A close student of affairs and possessing keen powers of observation, Mr. McHugh was an interesting man, but only those who enjoyed his society where humor and pathos were so happily blended, can be able, even approximately, to measure his loss. Rod McHugh was the friend of all our people, they in turn were his friends.
