Lorraine M. Scholbrock, age 85 of New Hampton, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab peacefully surrounded by family and close friends.

Lorraine Marie was born on November 2, 1929 to W. Joseph (Joe) and Rose Ann (Bilek) Panoch in Howard County, Iowa. Lorraine had two sisters and five brothers, together they all helped on the family farm. Her primary education was attending the rural school through the eighth grade, while attending school in Cresco she worked as a table waitress at Clemmers Café and the Tower Club. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1948. The summer following graduation Lorraine enrolled at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, taking the necessary classes to obtain a teaching license. That fall she began her teaching career teaching in country schools in Bassett, North Washington, and Alta Vista. After the reorganization of school districts, she transferred to the New Hampton Community School District where she taught reading for 30 years. In the mean time, she continued attending night classes and summer school and receive her B.S. degree in 1969.

On August 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to Marvin J. Scholbrock at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa, to this union two children were born, Marilee and Joseph. Marvin and Lorraine lived their lives together in the home they purchased following their marriage. After 50 years of marriage, Marvin died on March 17, 2005, Lorraine continued living in their home taking pride in her flowers and enjoying her grandchildren and friends.

It was the grandchildren as well as the great-grandchildren that kept Lorraine on her toes, keeping track of their successes and activities. You would often hear her saying “what you learn-is what you earn”.

Lorraine enjoyed cooking and was known for her baking of pies. She was proud of the motorcycle licenses she held until her death. Following retirement, she found great pleasure as a substitute teacher, teaching religion classes, and was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Marilee (Jr.) Mai, of New Hampton, IA, Joseph Scholbrock both of New Hampton, IA; 7 grandchildren, Travis Mai, Jason Mai, Heather Mai-Roecker, Jayden Schwickerath, Jina Scholbrock, Joey Scholbrock, Jerett Scholbrock; 5 great-grandchildren, Caden, Kinley, Kendall, Rayn, Maxwell, and one on the way; sister Gigi Wollenberg, of Rochester, MN; brothers, Joseph Panoch, of Castalia, IA, Ron Panoch, of Punta Gorda, Fl, Don Panoch, of Fredericksburg, IA, Ray Panoch, of New Hampton, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, sister Rose Marie Blong, brother, Leland Panoch, sister-in-law, Jane Panoch, brother-in-laws, Norman Wollenberg, Dainel Scholbrock, Verlyn Scholbrock, and nephew Craig Schobrock.
