Drowned --- Supposed to be a suicide

A farmer named Charles McKee, 60 years old, living near Chester, Howard Co., was found drowned in a pond on his own farm last Sunday. Deceased was a man in ill-health, his wife died but a few months before, and he laboring under mental despondency. In the afternoon he sent his daughter off to ride; when she returned he was absent, and his hat lying by the pond suggested the search for and discovery of the body. The coroner held no inquest because all the incidents pointed to self-destruction. He was a man held in good esteem.

Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows that he was born April 20 1835 and that he died June 11, 1893; however his gravestone shows he was 59 years old. He is buried in Chester Hill Cemetery.
