Bechtel, Ellen Melissa (Eddy) 1946 - 2015

Ellen Melissa (Eddy) Bechtel, 68, passed away April 25, 2015 after struggling valiantly with Lung Cancer. Ellen was born on December 21, 1946 in Cresco, IA to Elmer E. and Phyllis M. (Todd) Eddy. She received her high school diploma in 1965 and married the love of her life, Roger Bechtel on May 25, 1966. Roger and Ellen went on to have two children and five grandchildren.

Ellen served with love & dedication in several facets of the Postville Community Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder, Clerk of Session, attended Presbytery and was active in several other church groups. In 2010 she was touched to receive an Honorary Life Membership from the Presbyterian Women. Ellen was also an active member in PEO Chapter FT and belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Ellen assisted many people through her volunteer work with SHIPP and in 2012 received the prestigious Governor’s Volunteer Award. In November of 2012 Luana Community and Recreation Center was blessed to have her help in getting up and running. Grandma Elle, as she was known by many, was a frequent visitor at daycare and at the MFL Mar-Mac School. Of her many wonderful attributes, Ellen’s greatest had to be her positive attitude and her willingness to lend a helping hand.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Roger Bechtel from Luana, Iowa; her two children, Stacy (Heidi) Bechtel from St. Mary, Pennsylvania and Erin (Chad) (Bechtel) Keehner from Luana, Iowa; five grandchildren, Corey Bechtel, Kayla Keehner, Rachael Bechtel, Korby Keehner and Emma Keehner; three siblings, Edson Eddy from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marilyn Maly from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Grant Eddy from Albany, New York; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Burr from Cresco, Iowa, Evelyn Gray from Waukon, Iowa, and Christine Eddy from Greenville, South Carolina and a brother- in- Law, Larry Gizinski from Grand Island, Nebraska.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pricilla Gizinski and two brothers-in-law, Don Burr and Don Gray.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. Rev. Gary Catterson will be the officiant.

Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville and one hour before service at the church on Thursday.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.
