Ellen A. Alber, 64, of Cresco, IA, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

A visitation will be held 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA.

Ellen Adele Shimkus was born October 16, 1950, in Queens, New York, daughter of Charles and Adele (Zenka) Shimkus. Ellen enjoyed listening to Janis Joplin and other 60s music, and reminiscing about attending Woodstock in 1969. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and go shopping. Ellen gave the gift of donation to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.

Surviving Ellen is her husband Gilbert of Cresco, children Andrew (Andrea) Alber of Cresco, Kristen Cobb of Postville, IA, Ryan Alber of Bay Shore, NY, Eric McIntyre of Huntington Station, NY, and Joseph Alber of Ridge, NY, 10 grandchildren, her mother Adele Shimkus of Long Island, NY, and brother Chuck Shimkus of Long Island, NY.

Ellen is preceded in death by her father Charles Shimkus.
