DIED.

GILLETTE.—At the residence of her son-in-law, Dr. H. C. Price, in Cresco, Tuesday morning August 20th 1889, Mrs. Mary Adaline Gillette, in the 78 year of her age.

Mrs. Gillette was born at South Windsor, Conn. Nov. 29, 1811. Her parents were religious people and she was reared in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She early made a profession of religion and for more than sixty years lived a humble and devoted christian life. In the year 1844, she was united in marriage with Anson Gillette of New York. She leaves two children, Mrs. H. C. Price and A. W. Gillette, both of Cresco.

Mrs. Gillette became a member of the Congregational Church of Cresco, nearly ten years ago, bringing a letter from the Spring street Presbyterian church of New York City. She was a woman of influence and force of character, a veritable mother in Israel, of whom it may be truthfully said that many have arisen to call her blessed. “Strength and honor were her clothing,” and “her own works praise her in the gates.” Though suffering much during the last few weeks of her life from an incurable malady, she maintained her serenity and mental strength to the last, and with christian patience and resignation, awaited the final summons.
