Edward Novak, age 88 of Elma, IA passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Colonial Manor in Elma.
Edward Novak Jr. was born on February 15, 1926 to Edward Sr. and Lillian (Neuzil) Novak on the family farm near Spillville, IA. He attended country school until the 8th grade when he began working with his father on the farm. In 1950, Edward was drafted into the United States Marine Corp serving during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Edward returned home to continue farming. He was united in marriage to Agnes Lipa on June 7, 1954 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA. The couple then made their home in Elma where they raised their three children Debbie, Ricky and Michael. It was in Elma that Edward owned and operated his salvage yard until retirement. Edward was often found fishing when he wasn’t working. He spent many years as a Boy Scout leader. He loved spending time helping the scouts with various projects. He also enjoyed taking his wife dancing throughout Iowa and Minnesota with their friends. Edward was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Edward is survived by his wife, Agnes of Elma; his daughter Debbie Mlady of Cresco, IA, his sons, Ricky Novak of Salt Lake City, UT and Michael (Roxanne) Novak of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren, Wendy, Steven, Robert, Andy, Emily, Patty; his sister, Mildred (Al) Hrdlicka of Elma and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary (Art) Phillips; his brother, Tony (Gladys) Novak and his granddaughter, Anna Novak.
