Helen M. Drtina, age 94, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at Cresco Care Center surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA, with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Helen Marie Nibaur was born July 6, 1920 in Lourdes, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph W. and Margaret (Urban) Nibaur. She was baptized at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and attended school in Lourdes. Helen cared for her grandparents until they were no longer able to be in their own home. On January 11, 1938, Helen married George J. Drtina in Lourdes, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Richard and David. Farming was her passion, she loved the outdoors, gardening, flowers, and raising chickens, ducks, and geese. After moving to town in 1978, Helen enjoyed quilting, baking, and especially being with her family. In 2010 and 2011, Helen won 1st prize for her kolaches at the Howard County Fair.

Helen is survived by her 2 sons, Richard (Sonia) Drtina and David (Patti) Drtina both of Cresco, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Danny Drtina, Robin (Dave) Sobolik, Jill (Pat) Ryan, Julie (David Hagen) Drtina, and Mark (Lori) Drtina all of Cresco, Iowa; 12 great grandchildren, Alanda (Brandon) Meyer, Brendan Drtina, Ciara Drtina, Brian Sobolik, Jayme Sobolik, Cody Sobolik, Mitchell (McKenzie) Ryan, Michael Ryan, Dalton Hagen, Traeton Hagen, Luke Drtina, Seth Drtina, and Kara Drtina; 1 great-great grandson, Samuel Meyer; brother, Jerome Nibaur; sister-in-law, Angie Drtina; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George, parents, Joseph and Margaret, brothers, Claude and Clair, and 2 brothers in infancy, Clarence and Leonard.
