Harold Odell Brooks

Harold Odell Brooks, son of H.O. and Cora Brooks, was born at Belvidere, Illinois, March 4, 1905. He passed away at the Mercy hospital, Chicago, March 11, 1929, at the age of twenty-four years and seven days.

He came from Belvidere to Cresco with his parents when he was ten years old. He was graduated from the Cresco high school with the class of 1923. After graduation he worked in the Clemmer drug store for about one year. He then obtained a position in Chicago with the Western Electric Co.

He was married to Mabel Halweg at Maywood, Illinois, February, 1927. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brooks continue to live in Chicago after their marriage. About seven months ago he began working for the Fire Department at River Forest in which he rose to the rank of Lieutenant.

On January 15, he underwent a major operation and later another operation but all that medical care could do did not avail.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mabel Brooks, his mother, Mrs. Cora Brooks, and his father H.O. Brooks.

Harold Brooks was received into the membership of the Methodist Episcopal church at Cresco, December 20, 1914, from preparatory membership by the Rev. Will Kirwin, who was then pastor of the church. He has retained his membership in this church ever since.

He was a likable young man with a sunny and cheerful disposition and made many warm friends wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him but he will ever be remembered as a courteous, dependable and upright young man.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Cresco Thursday afternoon, March 14, at 1 o'clock, and burial was made in Oaklawn cemetery. The Rev. F.H. Weed, pastor, was assisted by the Rev. F. Engelhart, pastor of the Immanuel's Lutheran Church.
