Mrs. C.C. Brown

In the passing on of Mrs. C.C. Brown another pioneer woman has gone to eternal rest.

Ida McCloud was born January 25, 1857 at Elgin, Ill., the daughter of Lawson and Elizabeth Pierce McCloud.

She lived in Elgin, Illinois until her marriage to Charles Clifford Brown on May 18, 1881, at Cresco, Iowa.

She was one of twelve childre, only one of whom survives, Mr. Fred McCloud, who is eighty-two years of age, and lives at Santa Ana, Calif.

Mrs. Brown passed away March 21, 1941 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alson Daskam of Kendallville, Iowa, where she has made her home since the death of her husband on November 30, 1932.

She had been an invalid since September, 1939, but had been in a critical condition only during the last week.

There survive, besides the brother mentioned, six children: Mabel, Mrs. Alson Daskam, Kendallville, Iowa; Belle, Mrs. Walter Robinson, Hawkeye, Iowa; Helen, Mrs. L. A. White, Minot, N.D.; Anna, Mrs. John Kakac, Cresco, Iowa; Marguerite, Mrs. Harry Olson, Nora Springs, Iowa; and Edward, Cresco, Ia; all of whom have been here for several days. One son, Paul, died in 1919.

There are also twenty-three grandchildren and one great grandchild, Barbara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Nichols of Cresco. Of the many nieces and nephews two are present, Lloyd Barker of Cresco and Bert McLeod of Oak Park, Ill.

The greater part of the life of Mrs. Brown was spent on the farm in Orleans township, where she had gone as a bride and where all her children were born.

In 1920 she and her husband moved to Cresco where she lived until her husband's death.

She was a member for many years of the Rebekah lodge in Cresco, and an interested member and worker for the Methodist Episcopal church, having joined the church at the time Rev. John Gammons was pastor of the Morgan church which was situated in her home farm community.

She brought up her children in the church and gave her support always to all organizations connected with it, being an active member of the Sunday school, the Ladies' Aid and Woman's Missionary Society. Her life was lived for others, her husband, her children who were always her first concern; her neighbors to whom she was always ready to lend a helping hand; her church and many others who from time to time shared the hospitality of her home, and in doing thus she lived the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would that they should do to you."

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, March 23d, at the Bradley funeral home, the Rev. Geo. W. Turner the minister. Mrs. Turner sang two numbers, "the Garden of Prayer," and "When They Ring Those Golden Bells," accompanied by Donald Phillips. Interment was at Oaklawn cemetery.

Mr.and Mrs. Bert McLeod of Oak Park, Ill., were here for the funeral.
