Walter E. Bowers died at his home on Second Avenue S. W., Monday morning, Dec. 15, 1941, following an illness which kept him bedfast since April 20, this year.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Bradley Funeral home and burial was in Oaklawn cemetery. Pallbearers were H. O. Brooks, Fred DeGreve, M. A. Derr, C. L. Childe, Levi Roberts and P. P. Kolind.

Walter Edward Bowers was born at Dubuque, Iowa, April 4, 1849. He was the son of Edward C. and Letitia Bowers. He came to Howard county when a young man and spent most of his life here. In early youth he was a farmer. Later he was engaged in the poultry and egg business in Cresco.

He was united in marriage with Ida Gertrude Heath, of Howard county, Jan. 1, 1877. Seven children were born to them, three of whom survive. They are: Lee Bowers of Postville, Ia; Glen G. Bowers of Lanesboro, Minn., and Mrs. E. E. Schofiled of Cresco. Joe, Gordon, Edward and Edna Mazetta are deceased, the latter dying in infancy. Mrs. Bowers died Nov. 4, 1928. He has one sister, Mrs. L. J. Grantham of Cresco who has been at Mercy hospital for several months.

Mr. Bowers accepted Christ about one year ago. He was of a generous disposition, giving of his money to the poor and a friend to those in need. He was cared for by his daughter Mrs. Scofield during the 14 weeks he was in Mercy hospital and for the past several weeks in his home.
