Cheryl “Sherie” Dietzenbach, age 60 of Cresco, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Cheryl Faye Burke was born on November 24, 1953, daughter of Francis Burke and Emma (Houdek) Kratz, in Riceville, Iowa. Sherie graduated from Notre Dame High School with the class of 1972. She was married to Duane Dietzenbach for 34 years and was a cherished mother to daughters Jessie and Sara. Sherie enjoyed antiquing, lively conversations with friends over a glass of wine, and her steadfast companion Maggie, her English Mastiff. Sherie’s dream of “traveling to the homeland” came true when she and her daughters took a trip to Ireland in 2011. While there, they traced her family’s lineage back to Bruff (Limerick County) Ireland and even had the chance to visit the church where Sherie’s great-great-grandfather was married. Sherie loved being a grandma to her five grandbabies, and even though miles separated them, she was always sure to let them know how much they meant to her.

Once diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago, Sherie never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future with that “Emma grit” she was so proud to have inherited from her mama. She continued to persevere and along the way taught her family and friends the meaning of dignity, love, and courage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Notre Dame Parish, Cresco, IA with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sherie is survived by her daughters Jessie (Dave) Myers of North Bend, Washington and their children, Jackson, Lainey, and Camille, and Sara (Austin) Mason of Encinitas, California and their children Coral and Ander.

Welcoming her to Heaven are her parents as well as other friends and family who left too soon.
