Mark Joseph Ahern of Cresco, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014 at home after suffering for 14 years with various disabilities.

Visitation will be held 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Heritage Events Center basement, 229 3rd Avenue West, Cresco, IA.

Mark was born on July 31, 1953, in Cresco, son of Francis Virgil and Mary Frances (Thoma) Ahern. He attended Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1971. For a few years he worked for Sara Lee in New Hampton, on road construction with R.B. Birch Inc., and at John Deere in Waterloo, IA. Mark began welding at Featherlite Cresco in 1984 until disability forced his retirement in 2000. On July 13, 1974 he married Patricia Jean Reicks.

Mark enjoyed collecting model trains and John Deere items. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and dog Oscar. In his later years, Mark liked watching HGTV and Game Show Network.

He is survived by his wife; 3 sons Shawn (Beth) of Cresco, Jeremiah (Amy) of Denver, IA, and David (Michelle) of Cresco; 8 grandchildren Danielle, Ian, Shaylan, Allison, Alyse, Hailley, Jason, and Nathan; sister Susan Ahern-Kratz of Iowa City, IA; and brother Paul (Shirley) of Marengo, IA.

Preceding him in death are his parents, sisters Mary Ahern and Barbara LeGrand, mother-in-law Katie Reicks, brother-in-law Mike Reicks, and sister-in-law Sandy Reicks.
