Mrs. Fred Brown
Minnie Stockman Brown passed away at her home in Orleans township, June 29th, at 11 o'clock p.m. She had been in failing health for the past few years.
Minnie Stockman was a daughter of John and Sarah Stockman and was born near Kendallville, Iowa, September 30, 1862. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity.
On September 10, 1885, she was united in marriage with Fred Brown, their marriage being solemnized by the Rev. Thomas Oliver of the Ridgeway circuit. Since their marriage they made their home on their farm east of Cresco. Eight children were born to this home; four died in infancy. The surviving children are: Leon, living in the home, Luella Christian and Brayton Brown of this community and Bina Vaubel of Houston, Texas. Two grandsons also survive, Lyle Brown of Cresco and Eugene Vaubel of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Eugene Howard of Ridgeway is the only living sister.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Congregational church of Cresco. She was a kind and loving wife and mother. She spent her life in faithfully and willingly caring for her home, her husband and children. Her home was open to everyone and she was a blessing to all who came within its walls. She lived a beautiful and useful life, respected and esteemed in a large circle of friends. She was patient during her illness and all that medical skill and loving hands could accomplish was done for her.
Funeral services were held and very largely attended at the home July 1st conducted by Rev. John Gammons of Cresco. Interment was at Oaklawn cemetery.
