Mabel Bastian, 90, services in Decorah

Services for Mabel M. Bastian, 90, of Decorah were held Monday, March 5 in Fjelstul Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. James S. Dale officiated with interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were nephews, Reade Bronner, Richard Bronner, Arlyn Grube, Gary Grube, John Grube and also Keith Sanborn.

She died March 1, 1990 in the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Mabel M. Bastian was born August 31, 1899 in Riceville, the daughter of John Franklin and Emma (Garke) Grube. She attended school in Riceville and Cresco, having moved with her family to Cresco in 1909.

Mabel married Dr. C.L. Bastian of Lime Springs on November 27, 1925 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage they made their home in Madison, South Dakota.

Mabel was a member of the Legion Auxiliary.

She had been a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah since May, 1988.

Survivors are a son, Kenneth K. Bastian of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two grandsons and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Phelps of Decorah and Helen Bronner of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in May,1982; three brothers and two sisters.
