Amalia H. Vierherlig Blackburn, daughter of Anton and Josephine Vierheilig, was born in Milwaukee, Wis., September 22, 1877, and, after several months of illness, passed away at her home in Cresco, at 1:20 a.m. Feb. 12, 1937, aged 59 years, 4 months and 20 days.

She grew to young womanhood in Milwaukee, where she attended high school, and made a special study of music, which she later taught for a number of years. In December 1907, she was united in marriage with Mr. Wm. K. Blackburn,in Milwaukee. They made their home for a time in each of the following places:Milwaukee, Detroit, Mich., Norfolk, Virginia, and Honolulu. About 12 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn moved to Cresco, Iowa.

Mrs. Blackburn's husband preceded her in death Jan. 28th, 1934. Mr. Blackburn had been in ill health for about ten years, and during the later portion of that period was practically helpless. During that long illness, Mrs. Blackburn faithfully ministered to him by day and by night.

Home cares and her own ill health kept Mrs. Blackburn from taking a very active part in social or community affairs.

Left to mourn her departure are one sister, Mrs. Josephine Fischer, Milwaukee, Wis., One brother, William F. Vierherlig, Milwaukee, a number of nieces and nephews, besides many other relatives and friends in Milwaukee.

Funeral services were held at the home on Fourth Avenue East Monday afternoon, the Rev. W.H. Mitchell, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Blackburn's sister, husband and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Fischer and Miss Eleanor Kuesel of Milwaukee and two other nieces Mrs. Erma Rintelman and Mrs. George Manslof, also of Milwaukee.
