Jerome “Jerry” Sexton, age 80, of Cresco, IA, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, IA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA, with a scripture service to follow. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.
Jerome Thomas Sexton was born November 16, 1933 to Joseph and Ethel (Hanlon) Sexton in Winneshik{sp} County, Iowa. Jerry attended school until the 8th grade. After school, he helped on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army. Jerry was a heavy equipment operator building bridges while stationed in Germany, serving from 1953 until 1955. After returning home, he worked construction in Oregon building dams. Later, Jerry and his twin brother, James, owned their own pole building business. In 1961, Jerry and his 2 brothers bought their aunt and uncle’s farm. In the mid 1970’s, Jerry and his twin brother, James, bought his family farm and resided there until James’ death. He then moved into town with family. In June of 2010, Jerry moved into the Cresco Care Center and resided there until his death. Growing up, Jerry enjoyed going to movies, rollerskating, playing cards, shooting pool, and later going gambling.
Jerry is survived by his siblings, John Sexton, Shirley McConnell, Monica (Roger) Malli all of Cresco, IA, and Sharon (Bob) Boyd of Mechanicsville, IA; 10 nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jerry in death are his parents, Joseph and Ethel, brother, Earl (Isabelle) Sexton, twin brother, James Sexton, brother-in-law, James McConnell, and nephew, Joseph McConnell.
