Vernon Eggerichs, age 71, of Chester, IA died Thursday May 1, 2014 at the Ostrander Care and Rehab where he had resided for about 1 week.

Vernon Dale Eggerichs was born October 10, 1942 in Bloomfield Township, Fillmore County, MN to Dale and Floy (Winslow) Eggerichs. He attended and graduated from Chester High School in 1960 and was united in marriage to Judy Ness on May 26, 1961 at the United Lutheran Church in Chester, IA. Vernon was a dairy farmer all his life in the Chester, IA area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chester and served on the church council. He enjoyed reading and watching westerns.

Vernon is survived by his wife Judy of Chester, IA, 1 daughter Marcia (Richard) Tibbals of Lime Springs, IA and 1 son Jim Eggerichs of Ionia, Iowa, 6 grandchildren; Nicole (Kenny) Gronwoldt, Brittany (Marcus) Ruehlow, Kaylee Eggerichs, Randy Tibbals, Amanda Eggerichs and Kandice Eggerichs, 2 great-grandchildren; Deacon Ruehlow and Cheyenne Gronwoldt and 1 brother Charles Eggerichs of Lime Springs, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter Debra, 2 granddaughters Jenny and Penny, 1 brother Glenn and his father and mother in law Charles and Elsie Ness.

Funeral services for Vernon D. Eggerichs will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday May 5, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Chester, IA with the Rev Melanie Greengo officiating. Burial will take place in the Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday May 4, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Chester from 2 – 5 P.M.
