MRS. EDITH BAWDEN,CRESCO RESIDENT FOR SEVERAL YEARS,DIED

Services Conducted in Local Methodist Church, Also in Warren,Illinois

Mrs. Edith Bawden, 78, a resident of this county for 36 years died suddenly Thursday evening in the Mercy hospital, where she had been a patient for a week.

Funeral services were conducted in Cresco Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church of which Mrs. Bawden was a life-long active member by the Rev. George W. Turner, Rev. Mr. Turner also conducted the burial services in Warren, Illinois, Monday. Music at the Cresco service was sung by Mrs. G.W. Turner and Mrs. Thomas Darby with Mrs. Paul Nagel at the organ, and in Warren by friends of the family.

Edith West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John West, was born December 2, 1868, in Jo Davies county, Illinois. She attended grade and high near her home and taught in the rural schools for several terms.

She became the wife of Jesse Bawden March 12, 1886, the ceremony being performed in the Chelsea church in Jo Davies county. Mr. and Mrs. Bawden were the parents of seven children of whom five are still living.

The family came to Iowa in 1911 making their home on a farm near Bonair where they lived until 1920 when they moved to Cresco where Mrs. Bawden had lived since the death of her husband more than a decade ago.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leon Morgan and Mrs. Everett Phillips of Cresco, three sons, Clayton Bawden of Saint Paul, and Milton Bawden and Leslie Bawden of Vallejo, California, and two brothers, Sherman West of Stockton, Illinois and George West of Washington Satet.

There are eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also living.

Among those from out of town who were present at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Bawden and son Clayton, Jr., of Saint Paul,Leslie Bawden and Milton Bawden of Vallejo, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barrick of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Schultz and Jacqueline of Nora Springs.
