Born Near Cresco

James Allan Beveridge son of James and Margaret (nee Clink) Beveridge, was born near Cresco Feb. 5, 1884. He grew to young manhhod in this vicinity. He moved with his family to Mason City and there enlisted in World War I.
He served in the Rainbow Division, 168th Inf. and fought in several major battles including Chateau Thierry, Argonne, St. Mihiel and others. He was among those who guarded the Rhine for about a year after the Armistice.

Upon his return he made his home with his sister Mrs. Fred Gaffney in Mason City. His health had been failing for several years and last December he entered the Veterans hospital in Des Moines where he passed away the morning of August 1.

He was a cheerful, kindly man, loved by all who knew him. He suffered so much during his last illness and was so patient and had such faith he was a lesson to us all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Berenice and Margaret and one brother, Charlie. He leaves six sisters: Ida, Mrs. Fred Gaffney of Des Moines; Ella, Mrs. Ray Pfremmer of Fifield, Wis.; Tenna, Mrs. Clark of Cresco; Nellie, Mrs. Steve Taft of Cresco; Kitty, Mrs. Bud Davis of Cresco, and Winnie, Mrs. James Boyd of Mason City.
