Mrs. Florence Bents, Formerly of Cresco,, Died in Sioux Falls

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Bents, age 92, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, former long-time resident of Cresco, were held in the Bradley Funeral home in Cresco, Saturday afternoon. The Rev. E. Forrest Byers, pastor of the Cresco Congregational church, conducted the services, and burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

The aged woman died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Beulah Haas of Sioux Falls, Thursday following a long illness which became critical early last Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Bents, the former Florence Ellen Stockman, daughter of Mr. and James Stockman, was born in Ellenburg Center, Clarion county, New York, October 28, 1857. She came with her parents to Cresco when a small child. She had taught school in Howard county for a number of years and in 1879 she was married to Edwin Henry Bents. They became the parents of three children, Florence, Beulah and Glenn. Mr. Bents died in 1930.

In reading the life sketch of Mrs. Bents, the Rev. Mr. Byers said, "Mrs. Bents had a wonderful vitality for one of her age and was undaunted by misfortune that overtook her. Through illness over many years she was uncomplaining, always able to see the bright side of life, believing that 'every cloud has a silver lining.' She lived an unselfish life and found delight in doing little kindnesses for others, never thinking of herself."
Her hobby was letter writing, and she maintained a large correspondence which she took care of alone until six months ago.
Surviving the aged woman are her two daughters, Florence and Mrs. Beulah Haas. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Glenn, who died in 1928.
