Mrs. Bessie Ahern,86,Cresco Native,Dies

Funeral services for a Cresco native, Mrs. Bessie Ahern,86, of Waterloo, were held yesterday (Tuesday) morning at the Dahl Funeral home in Cedar Falls. Burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery at Cresco in the afternoon.

Mrs. Ahern died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.C. DeBilzan last Thursday of arteriosclerosis.

Born in Cresco, Oct. 10, 1881, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gulick Lee. She was united in marriage with Dr. John J. Ahern Feb. 22, 1909, in Gregory, S. Dak. Mr. and Mrs. Ahern's married life was spent in South Dakota. The couple lived in Oldham from 1918 until Mr. Ahern's death in January 1943. Mrs. Ahern continued to make her home there until 1947 when she moved to Cedar Falls where she lived until two and one-half years ago when she moved to Waterloo to live with her daughter.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Cedar Falls. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Past President's club of the Auxiliary.

Surviving Mrs. Ahern are two daughters, Mrs. W.E. (Marie) Studer of Portland,Ore, and Mrs. A.C. (Eveline) DeBilzan of Waterloo; one step-daughter, Sister Mary Florette of Tempe, Ariz.; two brothers, Theodore Lee of Cresco, and Arthur Lee of Prescott, Ariz., and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Gray and Mrs. Anna Ranfranz of Rochester, Mrs. Ella VanSickle of Minneapolis, and Emma Lee of Cresco. There are also five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were two step-sons, three brothers and two sisters.
