She was graduated from the Cresco high school and attended for one year the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She then returned to Cresco to be with her mother.
She was married to Joseph H. Burgess April 22, 1916, in Cresco.
Mr. and Mrs. Burgess established a home in Cresco, and they became the parents of two children, Jane, now Mrs. Gerald Ferguson of Arcadia, California, and John of Cresco.
It was pointed out by the Rev. Mr. Byers that "the Burgess home has always been a center of hospitality for young and old, a home of cheerful and gracious living which Mrs. Burgess believed essential to spiritual and material well being."
Mrs. Burgess was an active member of the Cresco Congregational church, the P.E.O. and Entre Nous to which she contributed materially so long as health permitted.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband, her two children, and three grandchildren.
