Gladys Burgess,68, services held

Services for Gladys Burgess,68, of Canton, Mn. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (today) at Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Allen Wiese will officiate.

She died Sunday, June 12, 1988 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Gladys (Baker) Burgess was born December 10, 1919 in Howard county, the daughter of Frank A. and Anna (Licktieg) Baker. She attended the rural school in New Oregon and then worked in cafes until she was united in marriage to James Burgess on November 23, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua by the Rev. Kent.

Gladys and James farmed for a few years and then owned and operated cafes and a tavern in Harmony and Canton; also a meat locker in Canton. They moved to Pine Island and worked in a grocery store until retiring and returning to Canton.

She is survived by her husband, James of Canton, MN; a brother, Jerome Baker of Cresco and two sisters, Mrs. Elvira Barnes and Mrs. Luverne (Mildred) Kach, both of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gilbert Baker.
