Services held for Edith Burgess

Funeral services for Edith Burgess were held Monday, August 28, at the United Methodist Church in Cresco with the Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiating. Interment was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edith died after a short illness Thursday, August 24, 1995, at the Howard County Hospital. She was 77 years of age.

Edith Burgess was born September 21, 1917, on a farm on the northwest edge of Cresco the daughter of Herbert and Gertrude (Marshall) Shuttleworth. She graduated from Cresco High School.

On March 27, 1937, she married Clifford Burgess at her parent's home. Following their marriage they bought a farm east of Cresco and operated a door to door dairy for a time. Edith later worked as a cook and baker for the Cresco school.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford; three sons, George and Richard of Cresco, and Thomas of Vero Beach,FL; two daughters, Diana Hove of Kankakee, IL, and Rosalie Bernick of Rockville, MD; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Florence and two brothers, Charles and Ernest.
