Breedlove

William Crawford Breedlove was born in Stokes county, North Carolina, October 28, 1832. At an early age he moved with his parents to Shelby county, Indiana. At the age of 16 he moved still farther westward, settling in Allamakee county, Iowa. He engaged in the merchandise business in Hardin which he followed for a number of years, but on account of failing health he retire to a farm and for a time was employed in farming. On the 8th of January 1856 he was untied in marriage to Percy A. Huckins, whose demise occurred nearly two years ago.

In 1879 they moved to Howard county, Iowa, where he continued to reside until death called him on the morning of March 18, 1909. There were seven children, four of which survive: A.H. and W.C. of Chester, Iowa, Josephine and George of this city; one brother lives in Kansas.

Mr. Breedlove was a good citizen, a kind friend, a faithful husband, an indulgent parent. Several years ago he united with the Universalist church. He was a man of integrity and honor, strict in his conviction of right, and upright in the matter of personal habit; he never sought to coerce others who might differ with him in matters of opinion. Like grain ripe for the sickle he has been gathered to his father by the Great Reaper of earth's vast reaping fields.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Gammons, assisted by Rev. Hinman. Interment was in Oak Lawn.
