OBITUARY OF MRS. E.F. BETTS
Rosalia M. Watros daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Watros was born Oct. 28, 1872 at the family home six miles east of Cresco where her childhood and youth were spent. She attended the district school of the neighborhood and finished her education in Cresco.
On October 10, 1894 she was united in marriage to Mr. Elmer F. Betts and went to live on a farm three miles north of Cresco which was also the birthplace of their three children. It was here that Mrs. Betts spent over twenty of the busiest and happiest years of her life. In the spring 1915, the family moved to Cresco and remained here four years. They then moved to Cedar Rapids, Ia. residing at 945 19th Ave. W., which is still the family home.
Mrs. Betts passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 1927, at 10:30 p.m., after a lingering illness of nearly two years. She was conscious until the end, and her last words were those of loving counsel to her husband and her children.
While living in Cresco Mrs. Betts was affiliated with the Congregational church and was faithful to all its interest. During her stay in Cedar Rapids she attended the St. Paul M.E. Church and was an active worker in the women's societies of the church. She also belonged to the Royal Neighbors and the Woman's Relief Corp. But whatever outside interests claimed her attention, her life found its richest fulfillment in the duties of the home, and the training and companionship of her children. It was the daily offering of herself in simple tasks that she gained a lasting place in the hearts of those whom she so faithfully served. "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."
Of her immediate family there are left to cherish her memory, her husband and three children, viz. Mr. Edwin Betts, of Cedar Rapids; Amy,(Ms. C.A. Clink) of Kendallville, Ia.; and Elta,(Mrs. L.N. Thorton), of St. Petersburg, Fla. She has also five grandchildren. She is survived by her aged mother, and four sisters: the Misses Viola and Amy Watros and Ruby (Mrs. J.H. Craighill), all of Cresco, and Mrs. Lillian Snavely, of Seattle, Wash., and by two brothers, Mr. O.G. Watros, of Cresco, and Dr. R.A. Watros of Davenport, Iowa.
Mrs. Betts' remains were brought back to Cresco accompanied by her family, and funeral services were held in the Congregational church Friday, July 20, at 2:30 p.m.; her former pastor, the Rev. W.A. Bockoven officiating. He spoke with much feeling and appropriateness from the text, "I will give you rest."
