SPILLVILLE- Funeral services for Austin A. Blomgren of Grundy Center were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec 8, 2012 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Interment was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.
Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Austin, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.
Austin A. Blomgren was born April 1, 1936, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Nellie (Roper) Blomgren. He worked various jobs throughout his life but he worked mainly as a farm hand in Grundy County.
Austin married Wilma Frana at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and the couple later divorced. On August 14, 1993, Austin married Adelia Menuey. They made their home in Grundy Center.
Austin was a member of the Waterloo Collectors Club. He enjoyed tractor rides, John Deere Tractors, 2-Cylinder tractors and restoring them with his son Dwight.
He is survived by his wife Adelia Menuey-Blomgren of Grundy Center; sons: Dwight (Kristine) Blomgren of Marshalltown and David Blomgren of Waterloo; sisters: Luwain Gaul and Elaine Gaul,both of Cresco; Half-sisters: Benita (Bill) Carney of Iowa City, Peggy (Carl) Wentworth of Evansdale; and step-sisters; Jean Iben of Boone and JoAnne Stockdale of Ridgeway.
Austin was preceded in death by a daughter: Debra Blomgren; sons: Austin Jr. and Mitchell in infancy; his parents; sister: Grace Roche; step-sisters: Karen Salisbury, Connie Smith and Val Eiffler.
Memorial may be made to the family.
