Henry Burgess,70,Funeral Held Monday
Funeral services for Henry Lomas Burgess, 70, were held Monday at the Congregational church with the Rev. Wayne Wasta officiating. Burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery with Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home making the arrangements.
Mr. Burgess was born April 25, 1902, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Burgess. He attended the Cresco public school and Pillsbury Academy of Owatonna, Minn. After graduating from high school, he spent two years in Idaho and Montana learning the lumber business. He then returned to Cresco and was employed by Burgess and Sons Lumber Company until retiring in 1961.
Mr. Burgess married Jeanne Walten on Oct. 8, 1930, and had two children, Robert and Carol. He served two and one-half years with the navy in World War II as an instructor in a fire school at Boston, Mass.
He was a member of the Cresco Fire Department from 1924 to 1966 and served as chief for 17 years. Mr. Burgess was a member of the First Congregational church, American Legion, the Masonic order and for several years served on the Howard county fair board.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his son Robert; his daughter Mrs. George (Carol) Hite of Edina,Minn., and their two children. Mr. Burgess is also survived by his brother, Charles Ray of New York City, N.Y., and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Marcia) Wise, of Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents.
