Ronald A. “Ron” Still, 72, of Decorah, IA, formerly of Protivin, IA passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery Protivin. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 123 North Main St. in Protivin. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ronald A. Still Sr. was born October 27, 1941 in Cresco, Iowa, son of Anthony and Marcella (Riehle) Still. He attended St. Rudophinum Catholic High School in Protivin until the 10th grade. On December 27, 1975, Ron married Sara Rinnels at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Ron started out farming and then went to work for John Deere in Waterloo for 31 years. During his retirement Ron stayed busy with his lawn mowing service, fixing up pick-up trucks, taking the trucks to car shows, and gardening. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He would take the grandchildren for tractor rides, and would let them loose in the field by the farm. He especially loved dancing to polka music.
Ron is survived by his children Ron (Kari) Jr. of Cresco, IA, Rhonda Hansmeier of Protivin, IA, Jason (Melinda) Oelmann of Winona, MN, Lonnie (Becky) Oelmann of Becker, MN, Lila (Gene) Wiley of Zearing, IA, Randy Oelmann of Cresco, IA, Rick (Betty) Oelmann of Eldora, IA, Ron’s special friend Mary Kepner of Decorah, IA, sister Kathy Carpenter of Hartland, WI, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Sara on March 2, 2009, and granddaughter Mackenzie.
