Services held Friday for Orvin Bakken

Funeral services for Orvin Bakken,69, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 6 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco. The Rev. Gary K. Lee and Intern Jean Megorden officiated with interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were his grandsons: Brian Bakken, Devin Burnikel, Darrick Burnikel, Nathan Boyle, Darin Burnikel, Jim Lang, Brady Bakken and Nick Boyle; great-grandson, Joshua Bakken and nephews, Rick Reicks and Randy Greenslade. Arrangements were with Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home.

He died on his farm September 3, 1991, as a result of an accident, doing what he did so well, working in his fields.

Orvin Harold Bakken was born December 9, 1921, in Winneshiek County, the son of Henry and Glora (Frethiem) Bakken. He was baptized December 10, 1921, and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Cresco in 1938.

Orvin was united in marriage to Darleen Hovey on June 19, 1948. The couple farmed in the Cresco area throughout their married life.

He is survived by his wife, Darleen; a son, Arnold of Cresco; five daughters, Mrs. Kelly (Susan) Lang of Decorah; Linda Burnikel of Cresco; Mrs. Dan (Judy) Biwer and Mrs. Bill (Rhonda) Boyle of Elma and Patty Bakken of Ionia. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson; three sisters, Lorraine Greenslade of Harmony, MN, Lillie Sebastian and Dolly Reicks, both of Cresco.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Roger and two sisters, Gladys Sullivan and Viola who died in infancy.
