Funeral services for Fred Brown, 92, well known retired Orleans township farmer, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Brown farm northeast of Cresco, where he had lived the last 67 years and had died August 24.
The Rev. Robert Butler, pastor of the Cresco Methodist church, conducted the service and burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery. The Bradley Funeral home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Fred Brown, son of Louis R. Brown and Sarah Chapin Brown, was born in Watertown, New York, July 21, 1860. When six weeks of age he moved with his parents to the Orleans township community.
He was married to Minnie Stockman in 1885 and the couple became the parents of eight children, four of whom died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Brown began married life on the farm where Mr. Brown had since lived. Despite his advanced age, Mr. Brown had taken a keen interest in world events. Only two years ago he went by airplane to Texas to visit a daughter.
Surviving the nonagenarian are two sons and two daughters, Leon Brown, who made his home with his father; Mrs. Herbert Ames of Minneapolis; Brayton Brown of Cresco, who lives on the old Louis Brown homestead and Mrs. Bina Vaubel of Houston, Texas.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Lyle and Gerald Brown of Cresco, and Eugene Vaubel of Houston, and two nephews, Louis Barrett of East Orange, New Jersey and Paul Barrett of Wooster, Ohio.
Preceding Mr. Brown in death were his wife, four children and a sister.
